How can I make sure students stay safe during the session?

Always make student safety the top priority. Supervise students when they leave the classroom, make sure they are safely returned to their parents, and immediately address any behavior that could put someone at risk.

For example:

  • Walk with students to the bathroom or water fountain, and ask the lead to watch your table while you’re gone.
  • Walk each student to their parents at the end of class. Students sometimes end up sitting alone in the library’s common areas waiting for pickup when nobody walks them out.
  • If a student is hitting others or putting someone in danger, move them to the lead’s table (it’s like being asked to go to the principal’s office), and talk to their parents.
  • If student is still not behaving and is a safety risk to others, call the parents immediately.
