Empowering Young Learners
Free Personalized Math Learning
Our Program
Many students ask, “Why am I learning this?” or “Why is this important?” when learning about various math concepts. The truth is, math is needed in every aspect of life, from trying to calculate a discount to managing finances to solving the next biggest physics conundrum.
That is why, at OneInMath, we aim to teach students not only arithmetic but also how to enjoy doing math! OneInMath is a free program designed to help young children (Kindergarten to 3rd grade) master math skills and build strong foundations in basic arithmetic.
Our goal is to help students become more comfortable with math and to reduce anxiety by individualizing the process of learning math, so they are more likely to succeed both now and in the future.
When It’s Offered
It is offered twice a year in Spring and Fall semesters consisting of 10 to 14 classes each session, one class per week.
Individualized curriculum
We believe that every child learns differently and at their own pace, which is why we individualize the process of learning math. The curriculum is designed to be a continuum from adding simple numbers to dividing large numbers. During the start of each session, students take a diagnostic that helps us understand how much they know and helps place the student in the right place along the continuum. Every subsequent class builds on what they know so each student builds a strong and seamless foundation in basic arithmetic.
Scientific methods
We use several scientific methods including pattern recognition, memory recall, repetition, memorization and practice to strengthen students’ learning. We recognize the power of these methods to help foster an understanding of math. We have developed techniques to help kids recognize patterns in numbers, comprehend the relationship between numbers, and allow these patterns to imprint in their memory through reasoning, practice, and visual illustrations until it becomes second nature.
Pressure-free environment
We deliberately mix students from different grades into a small group so students do not compare themselves with other students, reducing anxiety that may come from peer pressure. We also create small groups so students do not feel they are under constant supervision from the tutor.
Parent commitment
Mastering math skills requires dedication and commitment on part of the parent, student and Tutor. Both parent and student must commit to the program for the full session. Parents should ensure the student arrives on time for each class, has a quiet place to do homework and completes the assignments to get the most benefit out of the program. Parents should refrain from providing direct answers, but can help the child discover the answers.
Regular Classes
Students follow the workflow every week after first class
Step
01
Homework Reviewed & Classwork Assigned
Tutors review their students’ homework, using both a written and a verbal assessment to make sure students understand concepts being practiced. Tutors then assign another packet, which can either be the same packet repeated to improve comprehension, the next packet, or a review packet.
Step
02
New Concepts Taught
Tutors teach new concepts to students and explain the purpose of the packet.
Step
03
Students Complete Classwork
Students work on the packet while Tutors watch and help as necessary.
Step
04
Packet Reviewed
Tutors review the packet completed during class, once again trying to assess their comprehension.
Step
05
Homework Assigned
Tutors assign homework based on the progress of the student in the class.
Step
06
Do Packet At Home
The student completes the assigned packet at home.
