Address the behavior calmly but firmly and involve the session lead when needed. If the student is hurting others or becoming unsafe, separate them from the situation and speak with their parents if the behavior continues.
For example:
- Have a short, direct conversation to restate the expectation: “Hands to yourself, please. We need to sit and work now.”
- If two students are hitting each other, split them up right away, and ask a floating tutor to take the student aside until they calm down.
- Let the session lead know, and if the behavior keeps happening, talk with the parents about ways to help prevent it in future sessions.
