One of the key reasons OneInMath program has been effective and popular is because of the consistent attendance of both the volunteers and the students. It is important to address the inconsistent attendance as soon as possible, and also ensure that they inform their leads well in advance to the extent possible.
Be proactive when the volunteer is absent and have a direct talk to explain how students create a bond with the tutors and it is a critical part of a student’s learning. Their absence has a negative impact on students, and slows down their learning. Additionally, it makes it challenging to manage without their presence and commitment in each of the classes, and not informing ahead of time.
1. Talk to them face-to-face or phone (not by email/message) and inform them about their commitment and ask them if they are committed or not. If they are not, please remove the tutor and substitute with another tutor.
2. If they continue to be inconsistent, then remove them as a tutor (and potentially ask them to be a floating tutor) and accept a new tutor or an existing floating tutor to become the tutor.
3. If a volunteer has been inconsistent in the past session, and has applied for a new session, do not accept them, and if you do accept them, then first discuss their inconsistent attendance in the past, and how would we know that they remain committed this session.
